The Hills Are Alive Socks by Joanna Booth

This past month, I got to try out the SockCrate Membership box by KnitCrate, and I'm in LOVE!  Each SockCrate contains a hank of fingering weight yarn and a sock pattern pertaining to that month's theme.  This past month, the theme was Golden Hour, so everything had a really pretty, earthy feel to it.  The pattern is The Hills Are Alive by Joanna Booth, and the yarn is Vidalana Shimmer Sock in the colorway Garnet.

They're gorgeous, aren't they?  I can't even explain how much I love the way they turned out.  In the pattern, Joanna explains that she was really inspired by mountains under the twinkling stars, and I can definitely see that.  There's a very subtle mountain range going down the sock that you almost don't notice until you look at it sideways, and because of the Stellina in the yarn, the stars are always twinkling.

These were really quick and easy to knit up, though I did make a few changes.  For the heel flap, I worked one row of sl1, k1 on the right side then sl1, p to end on the wrong side, which is what I typically do for socks.  I don't think it did much to the overall look of the sock, but I think it will hold up a bit better than the instructions that were given.  There also weren't any instructions for mirroring the design on the other sock, which is something I really wanted to do, so I just reversed the instructions for the first sock, and I think it turned out perfectly!

  1. The flat design is the next step in this process. This is where you can create the pattern for the main part of the sock before you move the design mockup to the template. sock design template

  2. I love walking and meditation and I visit a gym in routine, and then I go to my office, so I need to change my socks three times a day. I have several pairs of socks, and I have added custom pet socks in the collection, and they have become my favourite.
