I may not be much of a baker, but I will say I really love custard desserts, and panna cotta is one of my favorites! It tastes just like vanilla ice cream, but is easy to make yourself like Jello, while at the same time being a classy looking dessert depending on how you present it. My personal favorite method of presentation is to use stemless wine glasses and top the panna cotta with raspberries or frozen strawberries - essentially any red fruit. :) Apparently Joe really likes it, too, as his is already partly gone after I prepared it yesterday afternoon...
- 1/3 cup 2% milk
- 1 (.25 ounce) envelope unflavored gelatine
- 2 1/2 cups whipping cream
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Pour the milk into a small bowl and stir in the gelatine. Set to the side.
In a saucepan, stir together the the cream and sugar over medium heat. Allow the mixture to come to allow the mixture to come to a full boil, watching it carefully. The mixture has a tendency to bubble up quickly. Add in the milk and gelatine mixture from before, and cook for an additional minute, stirring constantly. Then, remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
Separate the mixture into ramekins, or in our case, stemless wine glasses. This recipe does make six servings, so if you do this like we do, know that there are three servings in each glass. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before covering with plastic wrap and refrigerating for at least 4 hours.
