Norwegian-Inspired Bow Mittens


Supplies
Needles: 2 size 8 circular needles Yarn: 2 balls Cleckheaton Country 8 ply (Color 2299 - Duck)

Mittens (Right)
Using 2 circular needles, cast on 36sts (18/18).  Join round.  Rounds 1-15: work k2, p2 ribbing around.  Rounds 16-40: k around.  Round 41: k1, slip 7sts to spare needle, cast on 7sts, k to end.  Rounds 42-60: k around.  Rounds 60-end: (ssk, k to last 2sts of needle, k2tog) twice.  Repeat until 4sts total remain.  Cut yarn, and thread through remaining sts.

Mittens (Left)
Work Rounds 1-40 as for Right Mitten.  Round 41: k10, slip 7sts to spare needle, cast on 7sts, k to end.  Work rest of mitten as for Right Mitten.

Thumb (Both)
Join yarn and k 7sts from spare needle.  With second circular needle, pick up and knit 7sts along mitten.  Join round.  Rounds 1-14: k around.  Rounds 15-end: work as top of mitten until 6sts total remain.  Cut yarn, and thread through remaining sts.

Bow Body (Make 2)
Cast on 10sts.  Work St st for 20 rows.  Cast off.

Bow Ties (Make 2)
Work I-cord for 50 rows.  Cast off, and weave in ends.

Finishing
Weave in all ends on mittens.  With yarn needle, attach the sides of the bow body to the base of each mitten, just above ribbing.  Fold one tie in half, then slip tie under bow body, from bottom to top.  Slip ends of tie through the loop at the top of the bow body, and pull tight to create a bow.  Weave in any remaining loose ends.
